Why is there a cap on mining/gathering

Does anyone know why the devs decided on the cap for mining/gathering?
I genuinely enjoyed the mining/gathering aspect of this game, but with the new cap I feel like I can't play the game beyond an hour or two.
A poor mining/gathering system was also why I left another huge MMORPG that existed for a decade or so.
Hope dev can relook into this cap and remove it.
